The companies have merged to form Cytel described as the ‘world’s largest’ biometrics-focused services company. The new entity will have 1,000 statisticians and data scientists working across the US, India, and Europe.
The biometrics contract research organization (CRO) Cytel provides data-focused clinical research services and software. According to Joshua Schultz, CEO of Cytel, Axio Research’s background in biostatistics dovetails with its analytical capabilities. He added, “Sophisticated data and analytics have become ever more critical for our industry.”
Cytel aims to expand its clinical development solutions portfolio for pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical devices customers, according to the company.
Schultz said in a statement, “Our vision is to unite the combined expertise of our two companies to deliver powerful analytical solutions that address trial sponsors’ toughest drug development challenges and maximize the opportunities offered by emerging data sources.”
Axio will continue to operate under the name Axio as a Cytel company.
Cytel’s growth before merger

Most recently, in September 2017, Cytel announced its plans for an additional office in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania.
In March of 2017, the company also expanded adding a pharmacometrics and quantitative pharmacology team to the company and model informed drug development to its service offerings.
