United Cargo includes SkyCell’s temperature-controlled containers in its ‘rapidly increasing’ TempControl transport service for biopharmaceuticals.

SkyCell, a Swiss-based company, manufactures containers equipped with ‘internet of things’ (IoT) sensors for the transport of pharmaceutical products, which are sensitive to changes in temperature.

The sensors monitor factors such as temperature and humidity whilst being connected to the company’s data cloud, enabling tracking, as well as intervention, when deviations occur in the supply chain.

However, according to the company, the temperature deviations in SkyCell’s shipments are less than 0.1%, as the cooling technology enables the containers to keep a stable temperature for more than 160 hours.

United Cargo delivers shipments through 4,900 flights operated every day by United Airlines and United Express to 355 airports around the world.

Jan Krems, president of United Cargo, said that the transport of vaccines and other biopharmaceutical shipments through TempControl, the company’s temperature-controlled service, is ‘increasing rapidly’.

He added that today’s health care shippers demand a high level of quality service, which this partnership is expected to answer.

A spokesperson for SkyCell told us, “For every shipment, SkyCell and United Cargo experts use the define lane standard operating procedures (SOPs) together and produce a comprehensive lane risk analysis.”

The partnership with United comes shortly after SkyCell announced the expansion of a partnership with AirBridgeCargo to answer the needs for shipments in the expanding biologics sector, as well as the increase in demand for temperature-sensitive products.
