An expert speaking at the April 6 Clinical Development Innovations event will discuss an app that matches patients with clinical research opportunities.

The increasing pressure to get effective therapies into the hands of patients at a faster pace is helping drive unprecedented innovation in the field, from preclinical research to patient recruitment, to deployed trial technology. During the free webinar Clinical Development Innovations, attendees will get a chance to hear about such a technology that is not only innovative but award-winning.

Nikhil Joshi--an internist, clinical immunologist, cancer survivor, writer and former radio host—is behind Clinical Trial Hero, a free app that stretches across platforms to help connect patients looking for treatment to clinical trials within their geographic reach. This patient recruitment and engagement technology recently landed a Big Future Innovation Grant from Alberta Central, a Canadian financial services institution, to help fund its future growth and development.

The Clinical Trial Hero app is designed to help motivated patients connect with potential treatments near them. With COVID-19 impeding researchers and bringing studies to a crawl or total halt around the world, clinical researchers are seeking ways to restart and continue their work; the app provides a digital solution to keep the research going.

During these challenging times, clinical trials are more critical than ever, and we are so proud to be recognized for the work we are doing,” Joshi said. “The support from this grant will be instrumental in helping Clinical Trial Hero grow and reach more patients across the country.”

Joshi is one of three industry innovators and experts scheduled to speak during Clinical Development Innovations. The other two presenters are:

  • Jean-Enno Charton, director of bioethics and digital ethics with Merck, who oversees digital ethics strategy for the company
  • Ignacio Fuentes, managing director for the MIT Jameel Clinic for Machine Learning in Health, who works to develop research in artificial intelligence, life sciences and medicine

Each of the three experts will deliver a dynamic presentation on their specific area of expertise. Then, attendees will be invited to ask questions of the panelists during a Q&A session.

The free online event is made possible with the support and generosity of our sponsors:

  • AIC, an LBB Specialities company
  • Florence
  • PerkinElmer
