Polyfoil MMB mono-material tubes, designed to be recyclable, landed top honors in the Excellence in Sustainability at the recent Pharmapack Awards program.

Pharmaceutical packaging company Neopac recently earned first place in the Excellence in Sustainability category at the 2021 Pharmapack Awards. The winning Polyfoil mono-material barrier tube is designed to provide product protection, ease of use for patients, and appealing aesthetics.

Neopac is committed to helping the global pharmaceutical industry improve packaging solutions sustainability in a manner that keeps its most mission-critical goal – delivering safe, effective medicines – firmly intact,” said Martina Christiansen, Neopac’s director of sales. “Our Polyfoil MMB portfolio exemplifies this ongoing commitment, and we’re honored that our industry colleagues at Pharmapack recognized our efforts with this sought-after sustainability award.”

According to the company, the pharmaceutical sector typically struggles with sustainability, thanks to the prioritization of patient safety, convenience, and other considerations. The Polyfoil MMB tubes reportedly can reduce pharma packaging carbon footprints by up to 38% compared with traditional laminated tubes, while also offering product protection and compatibility with a range of formulations.

The body is constructed via a reportedly unique adhesive laminated process, in contrast to the more common blown and extruded film solutions employed by other tubes. The shoulder and cap are constructed of low-MIF HDPE, with 2% foreign material.

Neopac reports the Polyfoil MMB product achieves its sustainable characteristics while also offering a range of printing and decorative options. Combined with the company’s screw and hinge closures, the tubes can be recycled in PE rigid streams; the tube and cap combination reportedly is the first to receive full technology and product approval from the EU’s RecyClass sustainability verification organization.

Neopac aims to put the Polyfoil MMB tubes out on the market in January 2022; some pharmaceutical customers are in the process of performing stability tests.
