How have single-use technologies changed drug production? How do you dispose of a disposable technology? What will drive the market going forward? EMD Millipore answered these questions and more at Interphex 2011.

in-Pharmatechnologist.com spoke with EMD Millipore’s Vikas Gupta who said that single-use tech is having a dramatic impact on the pharma sector, particularly as it moves from the blockbuster model to a multi-drug, multi-site production paradigm.

He explained that in the last decade the application of single-use technology was primarily limited to buffer and media filtration and storage but in recent years it has begun to be used across all operations, from cell culture all the way to final fill/finish.

Gupta also discussed EMD Millipore’s unique approach to disposing of single-use technology, explaining that the firm converts used production technologies into fuel for brick and cement manufacturing.
