Thermo Fisher: new pumps compatible with all bioprocessing techs

Thermo Fisher has launched a pump technology designed for applications across the bioprocessing production line and usable with "all" bioprocessing tech.

The new peristaltic pumps – known as Miniflex – can deliver liquid volumes of up to 370 mL per minute.

This precision makes them suitable for applications ranging from media addition and bioreactor pH control through to downstream filling and filtration according to spokesman Gregg Johnson.

He told BioPharma-Reporter.com "This is a new product for us. It fills a gap in our product range for an easy-to-load pump with a compact size envelope. The compact size allows easy integration into small space applications.

"The broad performance range is ideal for transferring, metering, or sampling in a bio-processing environment. The pressure capability of the new Miniflex also makes it suitable for use with cross-flow filtration​."

Thermo Fisher's efforts to ensure the pumps are considered by the largest possible user base extended to making sure they can be combined with the broadest possible range of processing technologies, Johnson continued.

"This product can be connected to all types of bioprocessing equipment. Miniflex is available as a complete stand-alone pump system that can be connected directly into a bioreactor or fermentor."

He added that: "It is also available in a OEM [original equipment manufacturer] version where a bioreactor manufacturer can build the pump into his control system to provide additive feed and bioreactor chemistry control​."
