Major packaging player Rexam this morning announced that it will be
scooping up the plastics business of beleaguered firm
Owens-Illinois in a deal worth almost $2bn (€1.5bn).
Rexam has introduced two new desiccant caps - Evipharm &
Secupharm - that use a filled in-line silica gel as a desiccant to
improve shelf life of the drug.
Rexam, the world's largest beverage can maker, has bought Indian
pharmaceutical packaging firm Truepack for £5m (€7.3m), hungry for
a slice of the country's growing pharma market.
Rexam, which makes pharmaceutical packaging and is also the world's
largest manufacturer of aluminium cans, has sacked chief executive
Stefan Angwald after just five months on the job.
While still a small part of the packaging giant Rexam's overall
business, pharmaceuticals has been instrumental in driving a robust
rise in sales and earnings at the company's plastics division in
the first half of the year.
UK-based packaging company Rexam has provided further evidence of
its commitment to the pharmaceutical sector with the purchase of
Plastic Omnium Medical, a company specialising in plastic
components for medical devices.
