production and R&D capabilities.

Neo Pharma has become the first pharmaceutical manufacturing company to start production in Abu Dhabi, according to local press reports. After a three-month period of testing and validation at the facility, Neo Pharma will start producing around 45 different types of medicines.

The 17,000 square meter plant consists of two independent production blocks, one for the manufacture of a range of different products and the other dedicated to beta-lactams, used in the manufacture of antibiotics. A separate R&D operation will focus on process and product development.

Neo Pharma has been set up by the United Arab Emirates' New Medical Centre Group, specialising in hospitals, medical centres and pharmacies, in collaboration with USA-based multinational Pfizer and Ranbaxy of India.

A capacity of 180 million tablets, and 45 million units of antibiotics, 30 million capsules and nine million liquid oral doses is the target in the first phase of the project. In the second phase, Neo Pharma will expand the product range to more than 300 varieties of drugs.
