In the US, New Jersey Packaging has acquired Altwood Roll Label,
which supplies flexible packaging, inserts and labels to the
pharmaceutical and healthcare sector.

The deal gives NJP, a subsidiary of Menasha Corporation specialising in the printing of secondary packaging, a position in flexible packaging manufacturing at a stroke. This was a gap in NJP's portfolio, and will complement its other activities in the drug industry. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

NJP's products include pressure-sensitive and heat-sealed labels, inserts and outserts, multi-layer construction labels, pharmaceutical product information booklets and folding cartons for pharmaceutical products.

30-year-old Altwood has one manufacturing facility located in Elmwood Park, New Jersey. It specialises in labels, inserts, outserts, flexible packaging, blister backs, and extended text labels.

Altwood recently developed QuikLam, a 0.75 millimetre polypropylene over-laminate applied to typical paper/poly/foil/poly structures as they are printed that creates the look and feel of reverse printed polyester, without the long lead time and expense. It is intended for short lead time, short run label and flexible packaging projects such as sampling, clinical trials or market testing.

Meanwhile, NJP recently completed the renovation of the manufacturing site in Fairfield, New Jersey. The renovation created additional manufacturing areas and increased process flow, with additional equipment installed in the site's insert and outsert manufacturing areas.
