Franklin Miller has launched a shredding system designed for the
efficient destruction of pharmaceutical materials, making it easier
for drug companies, distributors or wholesalers sitting on a pile
of expired medicines to dispose of them safely.

By law, expired prescription and over-the-counter medication must be destroyed to prevent unauthorised distribution which could lead to serious medical problems. The new Taskmaster Shredding System is claimed to be an effective means of making sure that packaging materials for pharmaceuticals are completely destroyed, which has the added benefit of reducing the possibility that they may be diverted or used in drug counterfeiting.

The new system "offers unparalleled security, preventing theft, black marketeering, resale, pirating, re-use, pilferage, shrinkage and dumpster diving," said Franklin Miller in a statement.

The dual stage shredding system incorporates a rugged twin-shaft shredder and a second stage granulator to reduce bulk waste and sensitive products to a fine, unrecognisable state. Materials that can be processed include pharmaceuticals, bottles, blister packs, labels, inserts, packaging, documents and more, according to the company.

The Taskmaster Shredding System is supplied complete with shredders, stand, hoppers, and a discharge conveyor. A control system integrates the operation of all system components, and the entire set-up is constructed of stainless steel for corrosion resistance. The unit operates with little vibration or noise.

Other features of the system, according to Franklin Miller, include a split body frame that provides easy access to the cutters, allowing fast removal of the complete cutter assembly from the top of the unit.
