Jacobs wins two pharma engineering contracts
GlaxoSmithKline's (GSK) manufacturing capability at its Irish
plant, as well as develop a new biological manufacturing facility
for US firm Northfield Laboratories.
The global technical services provider will manage a team of 50 in-house workers and subcontractors to provide engineering, procurement, construction management, and validation services for the expansion at GSK's site in Currabinny, Cork, Ireland.
The deal has an initial period of two years and will be re-evaluated based on performance. Financial details were not disclosed.
"This contract award marks the beginning of a new way of working for GSK at the Currabinny site," said Jacobs Group vice president Phil Stassi.
"We look forward to applying our experience from similar site-based relationships to deliver significant long-term value to GSK."
Jacobs Engineering has also bagged a contract to provide engineering services for a new biological manufacturing facility being built by Northfield Laboratories in Mt. Prospect, Illinois.
The new facility will consist of commercial manufacturing space for the firm's PolyHeme product, including production modules, laboratories, warehousing, utility support, and offices, and will be built next to Northfield's existing PolyHeme pilot plant.
PolyHeme is a new blood substitute product for the treatment of urgent, large volume blood loss in trauma and surgery, particularly in settings when blood is not immediately available.
