Schlafender Hase has launched a new version of its text verification tool (TVT) that supports all major languages, allowing pharma packagers in all regions to check labels prior to shipping.

The software is used by eight of the 10 biggest pharma companies, according to Schlafender, and by ensuring the validity of the text can reduce the likelihood of issuing a recall.

TVT 5.0 adds support for all major languages, including pictorial, such as Japanese, and ones that read right to left, making it applicable to all the big pharmaceutical markets.

Carsten Holinski, responsible for sales and training at Schlafender, said: “By using the TVT, global products may be controlled outstandingly since we cover all global languages.”

Schlafender says that “TVT has almost become standard for labelling in the pharmaceutical industry”, a sector where mistakes on labelling and documentation can be costly and time consuming.

These mistakes can arise as the text is transferred from original documentation to layout to printing, with each step in the process being a potential source of errors.

TVT is software that monitors for these mistakes by comparing the text of two documents and highlighting inconsistencies, missing paragraphs and hyphenation errors in each version.

Schlafender claims the software can check large documents quickly, with an example of 150 pages in 15 seconds being used, and can compare multiple leaflets in different languages at the same time.

In the past three months Schlafender has given TVT training and presentations to companies including Novo Nordisk and Roche. These sessions have taken place in numerous countries, including China, Israel and Germany.
