The Aquarius Genesis film coating system is specially designed for continuous manufacturing, but can also be applied to batch processes, says executive.

The ingredients manufacturer launched the high-solids film coating system this morning at CPhI Worldwide in Madrid, Spain.

According to Ashland, the system is designed for application at up to 35% solids, and can increase the throughput of continuous or batch coating processes.

Aquarius Genesis was developed in response to an increasing uptake of continuous processing methods in the small molecule space, marketing director Deneen Law told us.

“We have observed growing demand for continuous manufacturing technology, as pharmaceutical companies look to reduce cost and increase efficacy,” said Law.

While the US is a major market for continuous manufacturing, Ashland also has a large client base in India and Europe, she added. This chimes with a report released prior to CPhI Worldwide suggesting uptake of continuous manufacturing would increase rapidly over the next decade.

Ashland’s US headquarters are located in Delaware – alongside laboratory and commercial spaces – with two other major laboratories located in Dusseldorf, Germany, and Hyderabad, India.
