Appointments at Covance, Sundia MediTech and Cardinal – People on the move

Outsourcing-Pharma presents its latest round up of movements in the pharmaceutical outsourcing sector, including appointments at Covance, Sundia MediTech and Cardinal.

Covance​ has appointed Steven Michael​ as its vice president and chief scientific officer of global analytical services. Michael has worked in the pharma industry for 15 years, most recently at Pfizer where he was an executive director of bioanalytical research.

Chen Chen​ has joined Sundia MediTech​ as senior vice president of chemistry services. Prior to joining the China-based contract research organisation (CRO) Chen worked at Neurocrine Biosciences for 15 years.

Bruce Downey ​will join Cardinal Health’s​ board of directors once the services company has completed the spinoff of CareFusion Corporation. The space on the board was created by the departure of John McCoy, who is retiring after 22 years service.

Downey was chairman and CEO of Barr Pharmaceuticals from 1994 to 2008, during which time the company grew considerably, and is also a former chairman of the Generic Pharmaceutical Association (GPhA).

UK-based CRO LCG Bioscience​ has appointed Karen Bateman​ as head of quality assurance. Bateman joins the company from Phytopharm and began her career at Reckitt & Colman.

IGI Laboratories ​has appointed Michael Hemric​ to its board of directors. Hemric is replacing Steven Morris who has resigned from the board.

Prior to his retirement in 2008 Hemric worked at Alcon Laboratories. During his 27 years at the company Hemric held various positions, including general manager of the consumer product and pharmaceutical division and president of the Far East business.
