Private US company Purdue Pharma has appointed Alan Dunton senior vice president of R&D, working under CEO Mark Timney. Dunton will serve as the company’s head scientist and oversea the medical research, drug safety, clinical pharmacology, virtual discovery, project management, and pharmaceutics and analytics teams.
Dunton qualified as a medical doctor before beginning a three-decade career in pharmaceuticals. In 2006, he founded Danerius LLC, a pharma consulting business, which he led until joining Purdue. He has also held executive positions at Panacos Pharmaceuticals and Metaphore Pharmaceuticals and was led the Janssen Research Foundation, the R&D arm of Johnson & Johnson.
Purdue develops over-the-counter and prescription pain meds, some with anti-abuse mechanisms.
