Dubai Science Park expands to boost research and development capacity by 147%
The expansion will introduce 200,000 sq. ft. of additional space, addressing the growing demand for Grade-A facilities amid a rising global appetite for research and development (R&D).
The new storage and logistics areas will support over 500 customers, including industry giants such as AstraZeneca, Pfizer, BeiGene, and GE Healthcare. This expansion aligns with Dubai’s strategic initiatives like the Dubai Economic Agenda ‘D33’, Dubai Research and Development Programme, and We the UAE 2031, which emphasize the importance of localised R&D and innovation.
Dubai Science Park R&D
Marwan Abdulaziz Janahi, Senior Vice President of Dubai Science Park at TECOM Group PJSC, highlighted the critical role of scientific innovation in national progress. He stated, "Enabling the regional scientific industry to reach its full potential requires addressing, and often pre-empting, the needs of the community of researchers and thinkers that are redefining our collective future."
Due for completion next year, the project will increase DSP’s total gross leasable storage area to 336,000 sq. ft. The new facilities, comprising 26 units with high power load capacity, will range from 6,000 sq. ft. to 16,000 sq. ft., catering to various business needs. This strategic expansion leverages DSP’s prime location, offering access to key transport networks, including the upcoming multimodal logistics hub at Al Maktoum International Airport.
Healthcare and biotech expansion
In recent months, demand for prime industrial and logistics land has surged due to increased institutional investment and business growth in Dubai, driven by the city’s geographic location, pro-innovation legislation, and booming e-commerce market. DSP’s expansion aims to meet this demand and support the regional healthcare and biotech sectors.
A recent white paper, The UAE Healthcare Ecosystem, produced by DSP in collaboration with EY, projects that UAE’s healthcare expenditure will reach AED 112.7 billion by 2027. The ongoing expansion will bolster capacity in the healthcare and biotech sectors, promoting enhanced treatment and research to deliver preventative and personalised healthcare.
UAE innovation
Located near DSP’s LEED-certified Laboratory Complex, the new storage and logistics spaces will support a broad spectrum of R&D activities. The expansion announcement comes as DSP participates in the BIO International Convention, highlighting its role as a Global Innovation Hub and accelerator of future biotech development led by R&D and innovation.
Dubai Science Park is part of TECOM Group’s portfolio of business districts, which includes Dubai Internet City, Dubai Media City, and Dubai Knowledge Park, among others.
