Sensitech expands in Europe with Check-It buy
position in temperature and humidity monitoring of supply chains
and expands its presence into the European market.
Sensitech has acquired Rask Holding, which operates as Check-It, based in Hornbaek, Denmark. This transaction was made through Sensitech's wholly owned subsidiary Sensitech Europe and closed on 1 July.
Check-It was the European distribution arm of Cox Technologies, a provider of temperature and humidity monitoring products that Sensitech acquired in April, and was particularly active throughout Scandinavia and Europe. Cox was the second acquisition Sensitech has made in the cold chain management space, its first being Ryan Instruments in 2000.
"The cold chain monitoring market is expanding rapidly," said Eric Schultz, Sensitech's chief executive. "The expansion of our distribution channels is imperative as new technologies and new players enter the market."
Sensitech is active in developing radiofrequency identification (RFID)-based technologies for cold chain management. It recently started piloting a new data logger with RFID technology that is designed to track and monitor the conditions in which a product is kept with a range of drug and food companies, in partnership with wireless networking specialist Ember.
Through the Check-It acquisition, Sensitech has established its first direct presence in Europe, and said that over the next 24 months it expects to make 'significant investments' in developing distribution and launching new products.
Sensitech said it would retain the services of the Check-It staff and, on a consulting basis, Rask Holdings' chief executive Jens Rask.
Sensitech specialises in temperature-monitoring instruments for the cold chain industry that comply with the regulatory requirements demanded of the pharmaceutical and food industries.
