People on the Move
Midatech
Midatech, a British company working with gold nanoparticle technology for drug delivery, has appointed Rolf Stahel Chairman and Craig Cook Chief Operating officer and Chief Medical Officer.
Stahel has worked for more than 40 years in the pharmaceutical industry, most notably as CEO of Shire between 1994 and 2003. His tenure there included the company’s first listing on the London Stock Exchange in 1996. He is also non-executive Chairman of Connexios Life Sciences, an Indian drug discovery company focused on metabolic diseases.
Craig Cook is the co-founder of SpaceCode Technologies, a firm providing IT services to healthcare companies. He previously worked in senior positions at Novartis and Serono International (now Merck Serono).
Midatech manufactures biocompatible gold nanoparticles (GNPs) for use in diabetes and cancer therapies. The company said its technology allows targeted delivery of medicines, with several drug molecules attached to one GNP allowing multivalent or multi-drug delivery. Small GNP size means they can be used for many administration routes, including oral, transdermal, mucosal, sublingual and inhalation.
