People on the Move
Merck Serono
Steven Hildemann has resigned as associate VP of European clinical trials at Merck & Co. (MSD) to become global chief medical officer and head of its global medical and safety unit at rival Merck Serono. He will also have an executive role in research and development.
Hildemann moved into the German pharmaceutical industry after a decade in academic medicine, specialising in internal medicine and cardiology.
He then took senior roles at Pharmacia, Pfizer, Amgen and Schering-Plough. Hildemann is an expert in drug development after a career overseeing clinical programmes, and he continues to practice emergency medicine.
He will be based in Darmstadt, Germany, under Annalisa Jenkins, executive VP of R&D for Merck Serono.
Jenkins praised Hildemann’s experience in academia and pharmaceuticals and said he would be working on “delivering differentiated new medicines to people living with unmet medical needs around the world.”
The CMO role at Merck Serono was vacated in December 2013 by Florian Bieber.
