Idenix pharmaceuticals, a biopharma firm which develops and discovers viral therapies, has hired Jacques Dumas, the co-inventor of oncology drugs Nexavar and Stivarga as executive VP and chief scientific officer. He takes on the position today.
Dumas gained a doctorate in Organic Chemistry from Paris Six University in 1991, before taking on several chemistry roles at Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals and AstraZeneca. Since 2010, he has been VP and head of strategy for innovative infection medicines at AstraZeneca, where he was responsible for small-molecule strategy.
Idenix’s CEO said Dumas had been hired for the combination of his chemistry expertise and business acumen.
"His knowledge and leadership will be important as we continue to conduct our nucleotide prodrug discovery work in HCV as well as explore potential therapeutic areas for which we can apply our chemistry expertise,” said Ron Renaud.
Dumas will direct research teams in both Cambridge, Massachusetts, and Montpellier, France.
